Basic Wardrobe Necessities

Transitioning from season to season can seem like a very lengthy task sometimes, however there are always key basics you will need and always rely on no matter what the trend or season.

The T-shirt
T-shirts are always a must when it comes to your wardrobe. They are the basic of all basics and can be paired with anything and everything.

The Jeans
You will never be able to survive without a few pairs of good jeans. They are one of the top items you will need in your wardrobe. I always feel your should start with three pairs: Black jeans, true blue jeans and another pair that is a different style or dye e.g. acid wash, mom jeans, boyfriends jeans etc.

The Leather Jacket
You may not think it but a leather jacket is quite an essential part of the 'basics' when it comes to your wardrobe. Just think of all the outfits you could team it with. A leather jacket is cool and effortless and when chucked on, it looks like you’ve really put thought into your outfit.

Black Heels
I shouldn’t need to go into that much detail on this one. Black heels are just a must.

The Tote/Shopper
A nice big shopper is perfect for everyday wear. It fits everything and mostly anything. Let’s face it, us women love a seemingly endless bag.

FaceTime Beauty Tricks

It's late and you’ve already prepped yourself for bed. Spot cream on, face shiny from moisturising and toning, lips overly greased in order for them to be soft and plump in the morning. Then you get that message:  “FaceTime?” and annoying as it may seem your now dashing around the room fixing your face.

But no longer will this be an issue. I’m going to give you some beauty tricks on how to look as natural as possible for those before bed facetime sessions.

Trick 1- Look Awake
The best way to look amazing on facetime is to cover up any dark marks under your eyes. Instead of using a concealer, get yourself a corrector which is a lighter coverage and corrects all blemishes and dark marks. This gives you a nice awaken look without being too over the top. This can also lighten up your face, which will give you a nice glowing look.

Trick 2 – Eyebrows on Fleek
I cannot stress how important eyebrows are. They frame the face and give is structure. If you have thick eyebrows then just brush them into place and go with it. If you fill them in, use a lighter hand and a slightly lighter colour so that they aren’t too in your face for that time of night.

Trick 3 – Matte skin
Shining skin on facetime is such a no no as the camera is not forgiving and lighting sure isn’t either. Having a really shiny face can make you look greasy and gross. Get your hands on a moisturiser that controls the oils in your face and mattes it. This will give your skin a natural look and subdued shine. Gel creams are usually the best moisturisers for this.

Trick 4 - Lips
The lips are pretty simple. Just keep them moisturised and if you want to add a little something chuck on some clear gloss.

Trick 5 – Hair
Whether your hair is short, long, wavy, curly, straight etc., put it in whatever style you do around the house when no ones around, be it in a bun, two buns, down, two cornrows, as long as your hair looks neat and tidy it wont be a problem.

Lastly, the ultimate thing to remember is not to look over done and but to look messily pretty. So ladies there you have it. Some simple tricks to look effortless and au natural for those random Facetime sessions with you know who.

Finding Your Personal Style

Trying to find your own sense of style can be a bit daunting, especially when it concerns trends. I’ve gone through such a change in my wardrobe in order to find my own style and to be honest this is all apart of growth in life. I shall now give some tips on finding your very own personal style (based on my personal thoughts and experience of course).

Rule No.1 – comfortability

To me, whatever I put on or buy, I have to be comfortable wearing it. Meaning I need to feel right in my clothes and this makes me feel good inside. Sounds really mushy but its true. Punks don’t walk down the road and question their clothing do they? No. They just walk, not giving a f*ck about what anyone has to say. This is what I mean by comfortabilty and this also plays an important part when it comes to your personal style. When you feel comfy in your clothes, stares and weirded out looks will not bother you and this leads me on to my next rule.

Rule No. 2 – Confidence

Confidence. This is one gift that you can give yourself and maintain. Personal style is based around this. I used to be insecure (not badly), but I would question my outfit choices and continuously ask myself, “ can I pull this off?” or “will this work?” Now I don’t have doubts. Confidence can change your whole outlook on your wardrobe. You’ll buy things without thinking twice because you know that the piece your buying is you down to the T and you can pull it off easily. Confidence will allow you to just be yourself and this will reflect through your clothing choices. One thing that I’ve learnt about confidence is to not rely on others to give it to you. I say this because, if you base your confidence off of what others say towards you then if they leave, they take that confidence with them. It takes time to build up but once you get there, you’ll never second-guess a fashion choice.

Rule No.3 – Make Trends your own

Once you have the last two rules in order this style thing becomes easy. Trends are the most tedious yet exciting things. Exciting for the fact that there’s new trend colours and new clothing pieces but tedious because, it means wardrobes change. Making seamlessly transitions from season to season can be a task. But when you have your own flair then you can pick out things from each trend, which corresponds with your wardrobe and style. Don’t let seasons and trends takeover your style, you have to let your style takeover them.

Rule No.4 – Do Not Follow

One of my most important rules. Based off of a quote that I love (I’ll put it at the end). Personal style does not come from following others and I don’t just mean celebrities. Its good to be inspired by people, whether they are family, friends, singers, designers etc. but do not expect to recreate the same outfits that they do. Do not live up to the expectations of other peoples’ fashion standards. Don’t get me wrong, I have a few fashion inspirations and icons, ranging from Coco Chanel to Lorde to Solange to Victoria Beckham, but I will never go out of my way to buy pieces exactly like theirs. I use their dress sense in order to get inspiration for clothing pieces, colours, patterns, and clothing shapes. I never follow. This is how people make a mockery of others (especially when the outfit isn’t pulled off properly). Use peoples’ fashion styles to build an incentive for originality.

Rule No.5 – Be Yourself

My favourite rule.
Always stay true to your being. Stay true to who you are. Clothes are a reflection of you. They are a reflection of your personality, they can scream 10 words to someone who doesn’t even know you. What you need to make sure of is that those words being screamed at people are the words you want people to hear.
